Learning Theories
Throughout the study of learning theories there were 4 main theories that resonated with me. Social learning by Bandura emphasizes that learning happens through people observing and modeling others. Vygotsky's sociocultural learning states that when a learner is working in their zone of proximal development with a scaffolded task they can be guided through learning by a more knowledgeable other. In connectivism Siemens and Downes explore how information is either assimilated into preexisting schemas or schemas are accommodated or changed with new information. Ladson-Billings' culturally relevant pedagogy encourages educators to work towards academic success for diverse students by planning curriculum that is culturally sensitive and inclusive.

Connectivism Infographic
For my infographic I focused on the theory of constructivism. In order to create this document I focused on the key Ideas of the theory and consolidated them together. As this was a newer learning theory for me I really resonated with how learning and growing happens through making connections. As I move forward I hope to use this as a reminder of how information can either confirm (assimilate) or adjust (accommodate) schemas.
Learning Theories and
Number Talks Video
In this video I examined one of the activities that I find benefits my students which is number talks. While number talks have many components, I was surprised how many different learning theories were tied together. This helped me to see how the activities I choose to do in my classroom align with my learning theories.

Learning Theories Checklist
Based on the learning theories that most align with my practice I created a checklist for the key components of each theory, especially focusing on the key terminology. I plan to use this as a resource to align activities to my beliefs. While an assignment will not check off every box on this list, I hope to use this as a guide to see which areas I can adapt and improve.
Final Thoughts
In teaching learning theories are not a one size fits all approach to teaching. As I work with different students and concepts, my approaches need to be flexible yet stay true to what I believe. These activities helped me to explore my beliefs, examine my practice, and identify ways I can improve. As I cont
